Here's the FANTASTIC line up of speakers:

Dr. Scott Foster, Chief Medical Executive, PeaceHealth Medical Group, Vancouver, WA, keynote speaker.  Dr. Foster will highlight PeaceHealth's commitment to implement a comprehensive system for understanding, documenting and honoring patient values and goals of care at the end of life in all health care settings, which includes the completion of Advance Directives.

ICU Nurses, Koala and Cathy, will present "The Realities of Advanced Medical Interventions."  Since 2015, they have given their presentation at 39 locations throughout Whatcom County (and in Anacortes) to help patients and their families better understand the implications of their health care choices before accident or serious illness occurs. 

  

Dr. Patrick Tandingan, PeaceHealth System Director for Hospice and Palliative Care, Eugene, OR, PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center, will "role play" with Daleasha Hall, BCC, PHMG Administrative Director of Palliative Care and Hospice Care, to demonstrate strategies for engaging with patients and family members in these often challenging conversations.

Ross Fewing, PeaceHealth Director of Ethics, Mission Integration and Spiritual Care, has oversight for clinical ethics consultations and the medical center's ethics committee.  He will address the importance of documenting your wishes from that perspective, but also emphasize the importance of choosing one's durable power of attorney for health care.

Heather Flaherty, Director, Riverstyx Foundation, will share her personal story when, as a recent 22-year old WWU graduate, she was called on to be her mother's voice when she was no longer able to speak for herself. Heather's mother had not completed an Advance Directive.    

Rob Stevenson, EMS Chief, Bellingham Fire Department/Whatcom Medic One, will describe what Emergency Medical Service crews do when they arrive on the scene of a 911 CPR call and the role of a POLST form and an Advance Directive in the care they provide.
